Director David F. Sandberg is set to helm a new psychological horror film titled “Mommy’s Home” for Lionsgate. The project, written by James Morosini, centers on a father whose domestic stability spirals when his cryogenically frozen mother is thawed and comes to live with his family. The premise blends science fiction elements with domestic horror to create an unconventional take on family dynamics.
Sandberg brings considerable experience to the project, having established himself as a skilled horror filmmaker. His breakthrough came with the feature adaptation of his viral YouTube short “Lights Out.” He has since expanded into mainstream filmmaking with the “Shazam!” franchise and recently completed “Until Dawn,” a horror video game adaptation for Sony released in 2025.
Morosini, who primarily works as an actor in film and television, is taking on his second screenwriting credit for a feature film. He previously wrote, directed, and starred in the 2022 dark comedy “I Love My Dad.” The production team includes producers Craig Flores, Dawn Olmstead, and Anonymous Content, with Sandberg and Lotta Losten producing through their company Mångata.
Sandberg continues to juggle multiple horror projects, with Netflix’s sci-fi horror film “Below” and Paramount’s “A Little Slice of Hell” currently in development. Lionsgate executives Scott O’Brien and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the “Mommy’s Home” production.
