DeMatha Catholic High School football is poised to pursue a third consecutive WCAC championship this season, following back-to-back conference titles. The program has undergone significant coaching changes, with legendary head coach Bill McGregor stepping away. Bryce Bevill, a 1990 DeMatha graduate, has assumed the head coaching role and brings extensive experience from his time with the University of Maryland, Howard University, and the New York Jets.
The Stags’ roster features an impressive collection of college-bound talent. The team’s standout players include James Pace III, a four-star edge rusher committed to Auburn and ranked third statewide among 2027 prospects; defensive lineman Sean Saint Fleur, a three-star committed to Purdue and ranked 14th in Maryland; safety Knyair Crumb, a three-star Auburn commit ranked 17th; running back Terrance Grant Jr., a three-star Maryland commit ranked 19th; and Kevin Nesbitt, a three-star Temple commit ranked 35th in the state.
DeMatha begins its campaign on Friday, August 28, with a home matchup against Archbishop Spalding. The squad’s wealth of Division I-caliber recruits, combined with Bevill’s professional coaching background, positions the program as a contender in the DMV’s premier high school football conference.
