After Celtic’s dominant 3-0 victory over LASK at home, Sutton believes management must act with greater ambition should the team progress to the lucrative group stage.
The club has already brought in four new recruits this summer, including Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh, Mika Baur, and Haissem Hassan. While Sutton acknowledges these additions strengthen Celtic’s domestic prospects, he argues they fall short of the standards required to compete against Europe’s elite. With a substantial £40 million financial incentive at stake from Champions League participation, Sutton contends the club must invest further to transform genuine European ambitions into reality.
Additional deals are expected to follow, with Bosnian international Ermin Mahmic and Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo set to join the squad. Celtic are also pursuing Hajduk Split’s Niko Sigur and Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis as potential reinforcements. However, Sutton maintains this activity alone is insufficient, warning that qualification must trigger a more aggressive recruitment strategy rather than serving as a consolation prize.
