Mitchell High School volleyball enters a new era with head coach Amy Tyler taking the helm after legendary coach Deb Thill’s retirement following 35 years of leadership. Tyler brings 16 years of coaching experience from Wagner, where she compiled a 433-93 record and won two Class A state championships. She joins an experienced coaching staff with most assistant coaches returning from the previous season.
The Kernels team has embraced accountability and discipline as guiding principles for the upcoming season, with captains selecting “Driven by discipline” as their motto. Despite losing key seniors from last year’s roster, including setter Addie Siemsen and libero Kenna Soulek, the program returns several talented players hungry to recapture the success of their recent state tournament appearance. Junior Londyn Hajek will transition to libero, while sophomore Sloan Stoebner takes over setting duties. Senior hitters Charleigh Collins and Ivory Fenski lead the offensive attack alongside freshman Nia Talley.
Tyler emphasized that summer training revealed important insights about player development and team dynamics. The focus on passing and ball control will be critical as the team adapts to new positions. Mitchell opens their season Friday against Sturgis before traveling to the Huron Invitational, then facing conference rival Harrisburg on September 1st—a four-time reigning state champion.
