Pragda, a U.S.-based distributor specializing in Ibero-American cinema, has secured North American rights to director Nicolás Pereda’s latest film “Everything Else Is Noise.” The acquisition comes ahead of the film’s upcoming premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, marking the second major pick-up for the company following its acquisition of the Chilean historical drama “The Red Hangar.”
The dialogue-driven ensemble comedy, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, has already garnered international recognition, including the Grand Prix at Buenos Aires’ Independent Film Festival. The film stars Teresita Sánchez as Tere, a cellist and composer whose apartment becomes the unlikely setting for a television interview that quickly devolves into absurdist humor, touching on artistic rivalries and family tensions as various interruptions and unexpected guests disrupt the conversation.
Beyond this single acquisition, Pragda has established a broader partnership with Pereda that extends to his nearly 20-film catalog. The distributor plans to introduce North American audiences to his complete body of work through theatrical releases, retrospective programs, educational distribution and digital platforms. This initiative includes acclaimed titles such as “Summer of Goliath,” which won the Venice Horizons best film award in 2010.
Pragda’s CEO Marta Sánchez expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the film’s distinctive voice and political undertones as reasons for the partnership. The film screens at TIFF’s Wavelengths section beginning September 10 and at the New York Film Festival’s main competition starting September 25.
