Carly Rae Jepsen has unveiled a new single titled “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor,” drawing inspiration from the Swedish pop legends ABBA. The track marks the first release from the “Night” section of her forthcoming double album Day and Night, which will feature 24 songs total. Jepsen collaborated with producers CJ Baran and Arthur Besnainou on the composition, crafting what she describes as a modern take on classic pop sensibilities with an infectious, participatory hook.
The creative spark for the song originated after Jepsen attended the ABBA Voyage concert experience in London, following recording sessions in Sweden. She sought to channel that inspiration into a contemporary pop anthem that maintained the melodic excellence of ABBA while incorporating updated sonic elements. A music video accompanies the release, featuring actors Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Washington in the lead roles and directed by Jeremy O. Harris, a Tony-nominated artist making his music video directorial debut.
Day and Night represents Jepsen’s first full-length album of original material since 2023’s The Loveliest Time. The project will arrive on September 18, with previously released singles “On Wires” and “After All” also appearing on the collection. Director Harris emphasized that the album finds Jepsen distilling intricate narratives into accessible pop compositions while exploring themes of adult relationships and love.
