Airbnb is leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate its product development cycle, according to statements made during the company’s recent earnings call. CEO Brian Chesky highlighted that the implementation of AI technology has enabled the platform to reduce the time required to bring new features from initial concept to public launch by as much as 60 percent. Additionally, the company has nearly doubled the volume of features and improvements shipped compared to the same period last year, with an increase of approximately 80 percent.
The company is now rolling out a new search functionality powered by artificial intelligence, which will be introduced as an optional feature. Rather than replacing the existing search system, Airbnb is offering users a toggle switch that allows them to opt into the AI-driven experience. The new search capability enables customers to input queries in natural language and receive visually formatted results, with AI-generated titles and real-time personalized highlights on product descriptions.
While Airbnb has been measured in deploying AI features directly to consumers, focusing instead on areas like search and discovery, the company has aggressively adopted AI technology for internal operations. Earlier this year, Airbnb revealed that artificial intelligence was responsible for writing 60 percent of its code. Customer support represents another area where AI integration has proven particularly effective, with the company’s AI agent resolving approximately 45 percent of support issues without human assistance, resulting in a 16 percent year-over-year reduction in support costs per booking.
