Peter Katsis, a prominent music industry manager, passed away Thursday at age 69 from complications related to congestive heart failure. Throughout his three-and-a-half decade career, Katsis established himself as a versatile force in artist management, working with an eclectic roster spanning multiple genres and generations.
Based in Chicago initially, Katsis began his career in the early 1980s managing the industrial band Ministry while simultaneously working as an A&R executive and concert promoter. He later relocated to Los Angeles, where his career gained significant momentum. In 1997, he joined the Firm management company as a partner alongside CEO Jeff Kwatinetz, becoming instrumental in launching and sustaining the careers of major acts including the Backstreet Boys, Korn, Limp Bizkit, and numerous other chart-topping artists across pop, rock, and hip-hop genres.
Known for his expertise in touring and live performance strategy, Katsis guided the Backstreet Boys from arena to stadium status and earned recognition for creative staging concepts. He later co-founded Prospect Park Entertainment, continuing to represent diverse talent including Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction, Morrissey, and Liz Phair. His work with Morrissey proved particularly prolific, overseeing the singer’s most commercially successful touring years in decades.
Katsis is survived by his sister Anastasia and his son Ian.
