“Wild Horse Nine” features an ensemble cast including John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, and Steve Buscemi. The film is set on Easter Island in the period leading up to the 1973 Chilean coup, following two CIA operatives and their superior as their mission becomes complicated by unexpected personal connections. Festival organizers have identified the film as among the season’s most impressive works, praising McDonagh’s ability to draw nuanced performances from his cast.
Festival CEO Christian Jungen characterized McDonagh as a master of dark comedy whose distinctive style combines expertly crafted cinematography with compelling storytelling.
