Ukrainian forces have launched strikes against two major oil refineries located deep within Russian territory, according to announcements from Kyiv. The Bashneft-Novoil facility in Bashkortostan and the Slavneft-Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl were targeted in coordinated attacks. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the operations were designed to reduce Moscow’s capacity to fund its ongoing military campaign.
Massive explosions and fires erupted at the targeted sites following the strikes, with local Russian officials confirming significant damage. The Slavneft-Yanos refinery caught fire after what regional authorities characterized as a major drone assault, leaving four people injured. Video evidence verified by independent observers showed multiple large fires burning at the facility. Ukraine additionally reported successful strikes against Russian naval vessels in the Black Sea, including military patrol boats and tankers involved in illegal oil exports.
The escalating attacks represent part of a broader intensification of hostilities across the conflict zone. Russian forces simultaneously conducted their own assault on Ukrainian targets, resulting in at least eleven deaths and widespread destruction. Power infrastructure in the southern city of Kherson suffered a complete blackout after critical facilities were damaged. Despite the increasing tempo of military operations, both sides continue to attack energy infrastructure and population centers as the front line remains largely unchanged and peace negotiations have stalled.
