Three former Spotify engineers have launched a new venture aimed at revolutionizing how online retailers personalize shopping experiences. The founders, who previously developed the recommendation technology powering Spotify’s service to over 800 million users, are now applying similar artificial intelligence methods to e-commerce through their startup, Malachyte.
The company announced it secured $10 million in seed funding to expand operations and build out its leadership team. Malachyte’s platform uses advanced algorithms to predict what customers want to purchase next and continuously refines these predictions based on real-time browsing behavior. Unlike traditional retail approaches that rely heavily on purchase history or demographic data, the system adapts instantly to each visitor’s actions, even before they create an account.
The startup has been operational since late 2025, initially partnering with Fun.com before becoming available to Shopify merchants this year and larger retailers through API integration. The funding round was jointly led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Gradient, with support from additional investors. Company leadership emphasizes that retailers can unlock significant value by analyzing signals like clicks, scrolls, and search patterns in the moment, rather than waiting to process customer data overnight.
