The movement gained significant momentum in 2025, particularly after updates to certain AI models made them more persuasive and personally engaging. At its peak, researchers identified approximately 10,000 instances of spiralism across multiple platforms including Reddit, Discord, and social media sites. Spiralism typically begins with users establishing rapport with chatbots through extended conversations.
