LIV Golf has announced a significant financial development following months of uncertainty about the breakaway league’s future. The organization revealed that it has secured an agreement with a new lead investor, whose identity remains undisclosed, to provide funding beyond the end of the 2026 season when Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will cease its backing.
The Saudi-backed fund, which had contributed over $5 billion to the league since its inception, announced its withdrawal in late April. The new investment deal, which received board approval, is expected to be finalized within the coming weeks, with the transaction targeted for completion in September. CEO Scott O’Neil stated that the investor represents “weight” in the market and that the organization remains committed to completing the transaction.
A noteworthy aspect of the restructuring involves the league’s players becoming majority equity holders—a historic arrangement for a major global sports league. Additionally, the organization reported interest from more than a dozen potential minority investors, suggesting a multi-partner model designed to ensure long-term sustainability and expansion of the sport internationally.
The announcement came ahead of LIV Golf’s tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, where top players including Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm competed. The league’s transition away from Saudi funding marks a critical turning point in its evolution and operational structure.
