A shooting incident in Prospect Hill, North Carolina has left multiple people dead and one injured, according to state law enforcement officials. Officers arrived at the scene just before 8 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday following an emergency call. The incident involved three fatalities, including the shooter, along with one additional person transported to Duke University Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Authorities have identified all those involved in the incident as adults connected through family ties, according to Sheriff Tony Durden. The identities of the victims and the suspected shooter have not yet been disclosed publicly. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation dispatched crime scene specialists to the location to collect evidence and conduct witness interviews.
Officials stated there is no ongoing public safety threat related to the incident. Sheriff Durden noted that there were no prior reports or contacts between the family members and local law enforcement. Investigators continue to gather additional information as the case develops.
