Paramount+ has unveiled the premiere date and first-look images for “The Varnell Hill Show,” a spinoff of the classic sitcom “Martin.” The new series will launch on the streaming platform this September, with the eight-episode first season debuting two episodes on September 1st. Additional episodes will roll out weekly every Tuesday through October 13th.
Tommy Davidson reprises his role as the titular character Varnell Hill nearly three decades after the original “Martin” series concluded. The show centers on Hill’s fictional late-night talk show, where he navigates the challenges of maintaining relevance in an evolving entertainment industry while managing demanding network executives, a hectic writers’ room, celebrity guests and significant personal ego.
The cast includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams. The production boasts an impressive roster of guest stars such as Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps and original “Martin” creator Martin Lawrence, who serves as an executive producer. Bentley Kyle Evans directs and serves as showrunner for the project, which is being produced in association with BET Studios.
