Match Group revealed during its second-quarter earnings call that Tinder is experimenting with two significant new features aimed at enhancing user connections. The Missed Connections tool, currently available in Canada and Australia, curates weekly profile suggestions based on users who crossed paths in the real world during the previous week. This feature represents part of a broader initiative to seamlessly blend in-person and digital dating experiences, following the company’s expansion of its Events feature to additional cities across North America and Europe.
Additionally, Tinder is piloting a text-based Search function in Canada designed to help users discover potential matches more effectively. Early results show promising engagement, with approximately one-tenth of beta testers utilizing the search capability, generating tens of thousands of searches within the initial weeks. CEO Spencer Rascoff emphasized that artificial intelligence accelerated the development of Missed Connections from conception to launch in mere weeks rather than months, reflecting the platform’s commitment to rapid innovation.
The platform has also refined its matching algorithm for straight women users, with plans to extend similar improvements to algorithms serving straight men and LGBTQ+ communities. These algorithmic enhancements contributed to increased engagement metrics. Despite ongoing year-over-year declines in direct revenue and paid users, Tinder’s daily active user decline of four percent represents the strongest performance in ten quarters, signaling a potential stabilization in the app’s user base.
