The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has significantly expanded its investigation into what is being called the largest known cyclosporiasis outbreak in the United States, now encompassing 15 states. Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and North Carolina represent the newly identified states in the outbreak, bringing the total number of affected states to 15. The Food and Drug Administration has identified iceberg lettuce produced by Taylor Farms de Mexico as the source of one outbreak and has initiated a voluntary recall affecting multiple states. Cyclosporiasis, caused by a microscopic parasite, spreads through contaminated food and water, producing symptoms such as diarrhea, fatigue, and stomach cramps that typically emerge about a week after infection. Health officials are advising the public to avoid recalled lettuce products and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
