Hyperkin has unveiled two fresh color options for its SupaBoy portable retro console, named Crimson and Prime, arriving this fall at $129.99 each. The new variants feature translucent shells designed to appeal to collectors and nostalgic gamers seeking a modern take on classic gaming hardware.
The SupaBoy distinguishes itself by running original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges without relying on emulation or digital downloads. The device supports cartridges across multiple regions—PAL, NTSC, and Japanese formats—eliminating compatibility concerns. Users can enjoy portable play on the 4.3-inch IPS display or connect to a television via AV output for multiplayer sessions using two available controller ports.
The Prime colorway draws inspiration from the Japanese and European Super Famicom’s pastel aesthetic, while the limited-edition Crimson references the original Japanese Famicom design. According to company developer Nathan Perez, these options respond to collector demand for tangible software ownership and uninterrupted gameplay experiences. The device’s rechargeable battery provides approximately 10 hours of continuous play.
Prime represents the inaugural installment in Hyperkin’s planned annual color rotation, with additional variants expected in future years. This release also marks the SupaBoy’s European debut, expanding the handheld’s market reach beyond its traditional availability. Both models replace existing versions and are scheduled for fall shipment.
