FIFA has released overdue prize money to Jordan’s national football team following public criticism from the Jordan Football Association’s president, Prince Ali bin Hussein. The payments, which covered Jordan’s participation in the 2025 Arab Cup held in Qatar, were delivered after being delayed for approximately eight months since December.
Prince Ali bin Hussein had accused FIFA of leveraging its support to influence his endorsement of FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The Jordan FA leader alleged that FIFA officials had suggested backing the president would assist in resolving issues facing the association, and he cited the delayed prize money as a specific example of the federation’s difficulties.
Despite receiving the outstanding funds, Prince Ali remained critical of FIFA’s leadership structure. He stated that the delayed payment exemplified broader governance concerns within the organization and confirmed his federation would not support Infantino’s reelection bid in the March election. FIFA did not publicly respond to the accusations of inappropriate conduct.
The payment resolution came as FIFA addressed controversy surrounding a failed proposal to sell World Cup commercial rights. Following a leadership meeting in Morocco, FIFA expressed regret over the handling of the initiative while reaffirming its support for Infantino’s bid to extend his presidency into a fourth term.
