UK authorities have confirmed that several members of Uganda’s boxing contingent have not returned following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Police Scotland stated they received reports regarding multiple athletes who remain unaccounted for and are currently conducting investigations in coordination with the Home Office.
According to the Uganda Boxing Federation president, only two of the six-member Ugandan boxing team have arrived back in the country. The missing athletes include the team’s captain along with three other boxers. Federation officials noted that the athletes’ visas remain valid and suggested it may be premature to characterize the situation as disappearances, as some team members may choose to extend their stays to visit friends and family before departing.
The Games, which concluded with a closing ceremony on Sunday, drew approximately 3,000 competitors from 74 nations to Scotland’s largest city. A Pakistani boxer was also reported to have remained in the United Kingdom beyond his scheduled return date, according to local media outlets. Games organizers emphasized their coordination with authorities to ensure proper arrival and departure procedures.
